Vashon Community Acupuncture Clinic at PRAHM
Every
Tuesday from
1:00pm-3:00pm,
unless it's a common holiday
What is community acupuncture? We are excited to bring community acupuncture to Vashon because it represents a style of treatment that is similar to the traditional treatment approach used in China. These clinics afford acupuncturists an opportunity to treat multiple patients at the same time thus significantly reducing the cost of treatment and making acupuncture more accessible to the entire community.
The cost of treatment is $40
(the initial consult is $70).
For the first treatment an initial interview is conducted in a private space. During this interview we come up with a treatment plan that is tailored to the individual’s specific condition. After the first interview clients are treated in a group setting while fully clothed. Thin, disposable needles are inserted into the client’s arms and legs. Because all of the meridians used in acupuncture can be accessed on the extremities it is not necessary to work directly on a painful or inflamed area.
Acupuncture is a safe and effective way to treat a variety of conditions such as back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, digestive disorders, sleep disorders, allergies, fibromyalgia, headaches, PMS, menstrual pain, menstrual irregularities, etc.

In Japan, parents bring healthy children to the Shonishin clinic on full moon days to boost their immune system and maintain good health by stimulating acupuncture meridians. We would like to bring this important tradition to Vashon by offering low-cost clinics once a month where parents can bring their children for monthly “tune-up” treatments on or around the full moon.
A variety of safe and gentle treatment modalities are used to treat kids, including “shonishin”, which involves using a series of tools to scrape, tap and rub acupuncture points and meridians. Other forms of treatment include the application of tiny magnets, herbal medicine, and sometimes the insertion of thin needles. Together these techniques can be used to treat a variety of acute and chronic conditions, including things like ear aches, frequent colds and flus, sleep problems, bedwetting, and behavior problems.
We will also be using this time to give parents ideas about how to promote kids’ health in various ways, including information about how to provide treatment to your kids at home!
